Seth Godin had another great post. In it, he notes just how shallow our echo chambers are. On the Internet? If you are, you assume everyone else is. People who go to the gym figure everyone else must as well. As he often does, Seth debunks our assumptions.
Our favorites:
- Just 1% of Internet users use Digg every day (yet they made the cover of Business Week just a few weeks ago).
- .37% of the US population reads the paper version of the New York Times daily.
Wow. Many of us remember growing up and it seemed like everyone was discussing the same television shows the day after they aired. You know what? Pretty much everyone was. Not anymore. We're becoming so fragmented that even new media phenomenons like Digg are only reaching a small portion of the population.
Be prepared to customize your message to many audiences, or be prepared to fail.
