Guess who's getting more unique monthly visitors -- viral video site YouTube or The New York Times?
In an interesting post at the Church of the Customer blog, we find it's pretty much a tie. But in this case, a tie is significant. YouTube.com came out of nowhere a few months ago, while The Times is a brand name with a strong online presence. Both YouTube and the NYT are getting about 4.9 million unique visitors each month.
But YouTube is also getting 20,000 new videos uploaded each and every day by users. That's significant as well.
If you want to reach your customers and you ignore the phenomenon of user-generated content, you do so at your own peril.
